چکیده
Abstract A dipole magnet generating 20 T and beyond will require high-temperature superconductors such as Bi 2 Sr CaCu O 8 ? x REBa Cu 3 $_{7-x}$?> 7 (RE = rare earth, rebco ). Symmetric tape round ( star ®) wires based on tapes are emerging a potential conductor for magnet, demonstrating whole-conductor current density of 580 mm ?2 at T, 4.2 K, bend radius 15 mm. There are, however, few developments using ® wires. Here we report subscale canted $\cos\theta$?> cos ? an initial experiment two purposes: to evaluate the performance in configuration start developing technology, leveraging small afforded by The was wound with wires, electrically parallel without transposition. Status of High Temperature Superconducting Magnet Development
Since the discovery of high temperature superconductors more than 2 decades ago, there has been interest in their use for future fusion machines. Lack of performance of commercially available materials, however, dampened the initial optimism. However, recent advances in HTS materials, mostly second-generation tapes, open attractive topologies. In addition to reduced cryogenic loads and increase...
متن کاملHigh Temperature Superconducting Magnet Control Actuators for the NGST
Executive Summary In this program, the use of high temperature superconducting monoliths for drivers for actuators was investigated. The properties of commercially available bulk YBCO and BSCCO monoliths were measured, and compared with those obtained in laboratory samples. The monoliths were charged, and the capability of holding field was determined. It was found that the properties of commer...
متن کاملExperimental Investigation of High-Temperature Superconducting Magnet for Maglev
The use of high-temperature superconducting wires (HTS wires) in on-board superconducting magnets for maglev has several advantages such as improvement in the stability of the superconducting magnet, improvement in reliability through simplification of the magnet structure, and decrease in the mass of the superconducting magnet and energy consumed by the on-board cryocooler. To demonstrate the ...
متن کاملA new ring-shape high-temperature superconducting trapped-field magnet
This paper presents a new trapped-field magnet made of second-generation high-temperature superconducting (2G HTS) rings. This so-called ring-shape 2G HTS magnet has the potential to provide much stronger magnetic fields relative to existing permanent magnets. Compared to existing 2G HTS trappedfield magnets, e.g. 2G HTS bulks and stacks, this new ring-shape 2G HTS magnet is more flexible in si...
متن کاملA gradient coil design for a high-temperature superconducting bulk magnet using the finite-difference method
The screening current induced in a bulk superconductor presents a critical problem for gradient coil design because it gives rise to undesirable effects on the gradient field: namely, a decrease in the efficiency and a distortion of the field. In this paper, a new coil design method for the bulk magnet is proposed using the finite-difference method (FDM) and the target-field method. The calcula...
